It was the 13th. It was a beautiful sunny day, different from the previous day. We’re going to visit many beautiful villages today.
From Aquitaine, we came back to the Midi-Pyrenees. The day before, we stayed in Auch, the central town of the Gers department, the area formerly known as Gascony.
Lavardin, about 30 minutes from Auch, was the first beautiful village of the day.
There is a reason why we came back to the Midi-Pyrenees. This village was not yet selected as a beautiful village in 2010.
しかもちょうど1週間前にこのラヴァルダンの近くにあるSarrant(サラン)という街に立ち寄ったのですが、ついつい手元にある地図が古く、ラヴァルダンが載っていなかったので、訪問しそこねてしまったのです。
It was after this visit to Saran that I bought the latest map. As you can see in the photo above, the new map properly shows Lavardin.
And what’s more, it’s a beautiful village named « Lavardin », but there are two of them.
The other one is in the Loire region. They are exactly the same when written in katakana, but the spelling is different.
ロワールにあるのが「Lavardin」、こちらが「Lavardens」。
Many of France’s most beautiful villages have similar names, but these are the only two of the 157 that are exactly the same when written in katakana.
Alright Lavardens its a very small village, with a church.
There is only one chateau, which was built as a fortress in the 12th century.
The village was small enough that you could go around it in about 10 minutes.
Finally, a panoramic view of the village.
