May 2014 Italy’s Most Beautiful Village Tour Field Report No.2

201405 Italy

We arrived at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport at 4:00 in the morning, where we will change our flight to Naples. I haven’t been to Paris airport since last year’s Corsica.

I had to wait for 5 hours, so I had to wait for a long time at the airport in the early morning. The arrival terminal is 2E, while the connecting flight is 2F, so we had to go outside first and then go to 2F. I didn’t have to pick up my luggage at this stage because I left it at Naples.

Still, the spelling of Nantes and Naples, which leave at the same time, is confusingly similar…

Some shops don’t open until around 6 o’clock, so I finished the security check while it was still open and headed for the boarding gate. I used the airport Wi-Fi (4.5 euros for 90 minutes) to update my blog, ate breakfast at Paul’s, and slept for half an hour to kill time.

And finally, we left for Naples.

The flight to Naples takes about two hours, arriving at the Capodichino airport at 12:00.

This is a memorable place where my car broke down in Amalfi 7 years ago and I was brought here by tow truck with the broken car to get a replacement.

At that time, I was only driving an automatic car, but the replacement car arranged here was a manual car. I hadn’t driven a manual car in 10 years, and in Naples, which is known as one of the roughest places to drive in Italy…

I miss the days when I practiced desperately around the airport, full of anxiety and wondering what was going to happen.

I was surprised to see that Capodichino, which I remembered so well, had been renovated and was much more beautiful than it was then.

The place to rent a car is a bit far from the airport, indeed it was, and we took the free shuttle bus from the front of the airport, which is exactly the same as 7 years ago.

The place where I rent that car a little farther away is also the same as before. I really miss it. It’s no exaggeration to say that Capodichino is the place where my European driving originated.

So it took a little time to go through the procedure, but I got a rental car without any problem. It is this Peugeot 308 that I will take care of for about 18 days.

It’s a station wagon. I’m surprised it’s only a little over 70,000. The scrapes on the front are pretty amazing…

Now, at last, the tour of Italy’s most beautiful villages begins!

The performance of the car is also excellent, it’s my first 308, I rented a 208 in Greece and it’s more stable and faster than that, I’m very happy with the car.

Then, driving in the suburbs of Naples, I felt my growth as I was able to drive with a sense of normalcy, as if I was lying when I was so anxious and nervous, and I was aiming for the first village.

The Google Map navigation system seems to be doing very well.
