Follow the course of the first stage of the Tour de France from north to south across Corsica – 2013 France Real Time Part 4

2013 France real-time

Today was a trip across Corsica.

In the morning, I walked around Bastia where I stayed. But I only saw a little of the old port.

It was a bit bleak with a lot of construction, but it was a wonderful port with a sense of history.

Just before I left Bastia, I bought a prepaid SIM at a shop of SFR, a local mobile carrier, to try things out.

In case you’re wondering, I’ve brought along a SIM-free device called the D25, which is Emova’s first-generation Pocket WiFi. This one has a good battery life, after all. I’ll try to set it up at the hotel tonight.

Afterwards we will stop at Venzolasca, a beautiful mountain village slightly south of Bastia.

We continued south along the east coastline on the N198, which is a different route from yesterday’s, with very straight roads that are great for driving.

After about two hours of driving, we stopped for a short break in a town called Porto Vecchio.

A beautiful port town with a great atmosphere and an old town overlooking the port.

By the way, this city is the starting point for the memorable first race of this year’s Tour de France. There are Tour banners all over the city, and it looks like the excitement is slowly building.

In fact, the N198 that we are using to travel south today is apparently the course of the first stage of this Tour.

The route from Porto Vecchio to Bastia, opposite to ours. I thought it would be fun to ride a bike while driving a car, and that’s what they’re really using. I’d love to see the first broadcast of this year.

Well, after resting for less than two hours, we headed south again.

In Porto Vecchio, the car was parked in a vertical row so tightly (*my car is in the back), and in addition, it is a slope that descends considerably in front of here, and naturally, since it is a MT car, it is required to start on a slope and back in this gap.

But we have already driven in Europe many times, so we are very good at this kind of escape.

And in about 30 minutes, we arrived in Bonifacio, the southernmost city. We decided to spend the night here tonight.

As you can see, Bonifacio is a fortified city perched on a cliff, and the views are breathtaking.

And the view of the harbor from that city is very beautiful.

The Citroen DS3 parked with the old town in the background is absolutely beautiful.

Although it is certainly difficult to visit, it is such a shame that it is not introduced in many Japanese guidebooks.

We took the hotel about a minute walk outside the old town. Very nice hotel.

I managed to set up a Pocket WiFi prepaid SIM at the hotel. (I’ll write about the details when I get back.

The only thing is that I can’t charge it properly, so I guess I still have to look into it.

We had dinner here in the old town. It was a little disappointing that it was not delicious…

Today is our last day in Corsica and after seeing Piana, another beautiful village, we will return to Ajaccio and catch the 7pm flight to Marseille.
