I’m tired… But I’m glad I went.
Bonneval-sur-Arc, one of the villages in the Rhône-Alpes that seemed to be out of the question for a while.
If I miss this opportunity, I don’t know when I’ll see it again, so I’ll drive 300km one way just for this village.
It took me four hours to get there.
Before departure, we went for a walk in Le Poet-Laval where we stayed the night before. But it was raining, so we couldn’t go out much.
It was raining heavily in Lyon and Valence, and if it was also raining heavily in the nearby villages, we hoped the weather in Bonneval-sur-Arc would be better and it might stop by the time we came back.
However, Bonneval-sur-Arc is located at the foot of the Alps at an altitude of almost 2,000 meters. I wondered if the road would be safe. So we decided to go to this beautiful village at the foot of the Alps.
As we approach the village, this is what we see. I’m full of anxiety.
However, we arrived at the village safely without any particular difficulty. As a result, the weather was not so bad.
It wasn’t raining so I was able to take pictures of the village with my DSLR.
I can’t say whether it’s worth the trouble to visit here, but as a person who aims to conquer beautiful villages, I can’t stop myself from visiting.
Moreover, the road to here was not as steep as I thought it would be. I think the villages in the Alps we visited last year were much tougher.
And the plan worked, and when we were back in the vicinity of Valence, the weather had improved a bit. It wasn’t sunny, but there were only occasional light showers.
Such a village near Valence was Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye.
It has a fine monastery and church, and the village below it is registered as a beautiful village. I think this village was registered recently, when I started this trip in 2010.
One last thing, it took about 2 hours from Saint-Antoine-l’Abbaye to Sainte-Croix-en-Jarez. This was actually the hardest village to get to today.
And unfortunately, it was raining here.
However, it was unfortunate that there weren’t many highlights.
Today we decided to take the motorway from Croix-en-Jarez and stay at a hotel in its service area.
In fact, tomorrow will be the longest drive of this trip in the true sense of the word, and I’m going to try to make the most of the advantage of being able to leave early and starting from the highway.
