Partenope Ebisu, True Neapolitan Pizza Association, Pulcinella

10. Hobby General

Today’s lunch was at this restaurant in Ebisu.

It seems to be a restaurant with a very good reputation, and it is fully booked during lunch time on weekends. My wife tried to go in last week when we were passing by, but it was full, so we made a reservation in advance this time.

The pizza is margherita.

Of course, it is an authentic pizza baked in an oven.

And the pasta is spaghetti with mustard and squid.

Pasta with mustard was often found in Sicily. The saltiness of the mustard, the squid, and the pasta go well together. Sicilians know what they are talking about. (Sorry for being so pompous.)

Also, although we didn’t order it, the bongolese had cherry tomatoes in it, just like in Naples, and it looked delicious too.

Looking at the restaurant’s website, it seems that the food is basically from Southern Italy, Campania, Calabria, Puglia, and Sicily. I was very satisfied with the taste as if it was served locally.

The house wine was good too.

Now, there’s another reason why I wanted to go to this restaurant.

It seems to be a genuine association inaugurated in Naples. Here are some excerpts from the objectives of the association

In short, if you get certified here, you can enjoy « real authentic Neapolitan pizza ».

Today’s shop has also been certified by the association. So, there was a signboard with this mark on the eaves of the building to show that it is certified by the association.

This is actually the second time I’ve been to a restaurant certified by the True Neapolitan Pizza Association. My first time was at a restaurant called Chiacchielone in Yokohama.

It was at this restaurant that I learned about the True Neapolitan Pizza Society.

Pulcinella (Italian: Pulcinella) is a clown who appears in the traditional Italian satire Commedia dell’Arte. He has a high nose, a drum belly, and a black mask that contrasts with his white clothes. (from wikipedia)

If you are a classical music fan, you may be familiar with this name. Pulcinella.

Yeah, yeah, Stravinsky.
