We were blessed with beautiful weather on our last day!
Pavia Monastery » is majestic and very beautiful
It is introduced in the way of the earth, but apparently the convenience of the traffic is not good, and I do not hear the reputation in the net etc. much. I was able to get there without a problem for me because I was in a car.
It was a little distance from the parking lot to the monastery. But it was still early in the morning (around 10 o’clock), so there were only two cars parked in the parking lot…. I’m worried that it’s open.
Initially, this monastery seemed too touristy, but once you stepped onto the grounds, you were extremely impressed by its beauty!
So it’s a pity that I can’t express the beauty of this place in pictures. You’ll have to come and see it for yourself.
In addition, to view the interior, you need to participate in a guided tour. It was not necessary to apply for the tour, but it started when the number of people gathered. I joined in with the Italian tourists. Although I had no idea about the explanation in Italian, I could see the main facilities such as the Small Gallery (the design of this courtyard and gallery was especially beautiful) and the Large Gallery (very spacious). The guided tour was basically free of charge, but it seemed to be customary to donate about 5 euros to the monastery after the tour, so I followed the custom.
So, I couldn’t fully convey its charm in this post, but I thought it was one of the most beautiful monasteries and churches I’ve ever visited in Europe, so I highly recommend you to visit it, even though it’s not convenient for transportation.
To the Milan Naviglio Canal
After leaving Pavia, I went to Milan next. It’s been 8 years since I went to Milan. But I only strolled around the Duomo briefly before.

Arrived at the site without hesitation, but it was difficult to find a parking lot. We found a parking lot in a shopping building near the canal and decided to take care of it there. The canal was about a 5-minute walk from the shopping building.
My impression of the actual place was a little different from the impression I had from the movie, but it had a very tasteful and quaint atmosphere, and I really enjoyed just walking around. After all, it was this weather!
Apparently, there are regular tours of this canal. We also felt that we could have a meal on a boat floating along the canal. The water quality of the canal itself is judged by its appearance, but I thought it was well maintained, although I can’t say it was very beautiful. If this is the case, it will be no problem at all to watch while eating nearby.
You can also take a tram from the city center to this area.
The area around the Naviglio Canal has a somewhat downtown feel to it, but I didn’t feel too worried about security.
Lunch along the Naviglio Canal
When I walked along the canal, it was just about 1 p.m., so I decided to have lunch here. There were many good restaurants along the canal, and it was crowded with many tourists. So it was not difficult to choose a restaurant.
We were hungry so we also ordered the Sekondi. It was a dish of lamb and green peas. It was delicious.
We got dessert not at a shop but at a gelato shop along the canal. It was also very delicious. Gelato in Europe including Italy is really wonderful.
To the Duomo, the heart of the city
After leaving the Canal Naviglio, we headed to the Duomo, the center of Milan. We didn’t know how far we could drive, or even if there was a parking lot, but we decided to head there anyway.
As you would expect in the center of Milan, it was very crowded. I felt that trams and motorbikes were approaching from all directions rather than a lot of cars, so I was very careful about driving. There are also many one-way streets and lanes where only bus taxis are allowed to pass, making it a maze of high difficulty. In the end, we had to rely on our own intuition.
Even so, we managed to arrive near the Duomo. Fortunately there are several privately owned parking lots nearby, I was able to park there safely. Good location, about 3 minutes walk to the Duomo. It’s been 7 years since I’ve been to this area, but with my driving skills back then, I probably wouldn’t have been able to make it.
I accidentally forgot to take a picture of the parking lot, but the antechamber award is like this. It is a pattern to leave the car and the key, and leave the entry to the other party. Because I left all the luggage except valuables, well, I was a little uneasy.
We bought our tickets at the ticket booth in the museum, so we watched it from here first. There were many more exhibits than I expected, and it was worth seeing.
After that, we went to the inside of the Duomo. The entrance is from the front left. I think I entered before, but I had little memory of the inside. Maybe because I’ve seen many cathedrals, I thought it was as good as it could be, but I had the impression that it was something like this.
Next, we went outside to the roof. When you buy the ticket, you can choose the stairs or the elevator to go up to the top. I took the elevator. The entrance to the elevator was behind the Duomo on the right. It wasn’t so crowded, but the elevator is small, so I think I waited for about 10 minutes to go up.
Then we went to the top of the Duomo. This is my first time here. Why didn’t we go up before? I guess it was under renovation. The view of the city from the hill was nice, but it was very interesting to see the spire of the Duomo up close. It might have been more fun than the inside.
Still, we were blessed with good weather. After all, it rained only one day in this trip, didn’t it?
At the end of the day, we bought three bottles of wine at a shop behind the Duomo.
The sightseeing of Mirara ends with the purchase of wine. Return to the parking lot. I handed in the receipt I received earlier and paid the fee. Just 10 euros. Even though it’s only 3 hours, it’s too cheap to be in the middle of such a big city. I’ll definitely keep this in mind.
Then we went through the hustle and bustle of the big city again to the hotel we had booked on the Malpensa Airport side.
On the last day, I chose a hotel located less than 10 minutes away from the airport. We returned the car on the next day, just before departure. I had no big trouble with the car so far, so I think it will be OK unless something serious happens.
