Date of visit: May 17, 2013, around 8:00 p.m.

Finally, I came to Brittany. And the purpose is just to see this village.

The total driving distance for the day will be close to 800km.

We left Sainte-Suzanne at a little after 5 p.m. Initially, we were going to continue to Rennes and head directly for Montcontour, but we decided not to do so and decided to check in at a hotel we had booked in the nearby town of Laval.

By the way, we stayed at a chain hotel called « Campanile » in the eastern suburbs of Laval. I often use this chain.

It takes about two hours from Sainte-Suzanne to this village one way, so if we go there from this time, we should expect about five or six hours including sightseeing time and meal time. Then, it would be almost 11 o’clock at night when we came back to the hotel, and we might not be able to check in because the reception was closed.

That’s what I thought, and that’s why I decided to check in ahead of time.

Fortunately, this hotel in Laval is very close to the highway exit, so it’s very convenient to get around by car. Once I checked in, I just got the key and checked the room a little. With my luggage still in the car, I headed for Brittany.

The roads around Rennes, a big city in Brittany, were congested due to the evening rush, but once we got out of Rennes, the roads were a bit crowded, but the driving continued smoothly and we arrived at our destination, Montcontour, in two hours as planned.

It was 8 o’clock in the evening when we arrived at Brittany, but the longitude is west longitude, that is, west of London, and the standard time is one hour earlier than London in France, so it was still light enough at this time.

Like Sainte-Suzanne, which we visited just before, Montcontour was recently chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in France. I had already visited this village in 2011, but I didn’t know it was chosen as one of the most beautiful villages in Brittany at that time.

If I had known then, I wouldn’t have had to come all the way to Brittany at this hour (laughs).

It was quiet in the evening, but the village was a little large for a beautiful village.

I walked around to see if I could find a place with a good view of the whole village from a height, but I couldn’t find a good place.

Even so, I was able to fully enjoy a walk in the evening with a good amount of light.

We left Mont Contreur after 9 pm. We had dinner at MacDonald’s on the way back. It was very crowded.

The way home is a night drive after a long time.

It was past 11 p.m. when we arrived at our hotel in Laval. After taking a shower, the day’s strenuous itinerary finally came to an end.

I’m waiting for another long drive tomorrow.
