« The New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic is one of the most famous New Year’s events, broadcast live to the world every year on January 1st.

The Vienna Philharmonic holds concerts not only on January 1, but also on December 30 and 31 with the exact same program as on New Year’s Day. This is called the « Pre-New Year’s Concert ».

This is the 2018 Pre-New Year’s Concert, and to my surprise, I got a ticket!

Apply on the Vienna Philharmonic website

How on earth do I get a ticket? These tickets are awarded by lottery. In order to obtain tickets for the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert or the Pre-New Year’s Concert, you must apply for the desired date and the desired number of seats on the Vienna Philharmonic website between January 2 and February, the day after the New Year’s Concert of the current year.

I already got an email on March 4 letting me know I won.

Of course, tickets for the New Year’s Concert are flooded with applications from all over the world, so it is expected to be a terrifyingly high percentage. Especially for the one-day New Year’s Concert, it is exceptional.

So, until a few years ago, I had continued to make a reservation every year, but I was in a state that I did not even apply for the last few years when I thought that I could not hit it no matter how I thought, but this year I thought that I would apply for the first time in a long time somehow and applied.

But to be honest, I didn’t expect it at all, so I completely forgot that I had applied for it. But one day in April, I checked my gmail to see if I had applied for the Vienna Philharmonic, and to my surprise, I had received an email telling me I had won!

「12月30日のプレビュー・パフォーマンスに当選、おめでとうございます」との内容です!

By the way, the reason why I didn’t notice that I received this email on March 4 is because gmail had journaled it from my inbox to the promotion tray by itself. I discovered it while walking in the morning on my way to the office, and I was so excited that I almost shouted out at the time.

The deposit deadline had expired, but I was able to settle it without any problems.

But when I looked closer, I saw that the deadline for payment was March 31! My heart almost stopped. When I logged into the website, I found that I could pay by credit card, so I proceeded with the procedure without any problems.

Immediately after the payment, I received a confirmation email with the invoice details in the body of the email, telling me that the payment had been made properly. According to this email, I was instructed to pick up the concert tickets at the local ticket office of the Vienna Philharmonic.

As mentioned in the email content, the same information was also found on the New Year’s Concert tab of the My Page section of the website.

You can start receiving them in October, but I’ll pick these up locally about a day before.

The price, of course, is high.

The New Year’s Concert is the most popular classical concert in the world, so of course the prices are top-notch. However, the price of the pre-concert is cheaper than that of the main concert on January 1 of the following year. I booked two Category 2 tickets for a couple at 400 Euros each. It was 400 Euros per ticket, and they booked relatively good seats.

By the way, tickets for New Year’s Day are roughly double or more the price of the pre-sale tickets. Terrible….

Even though it would be a great honor to win this one, I have to admit that I was relieved not to win it lol.

ということで、まさかの年末年始ウィーンが決定してしまいました。予想外の出費とは言えまたとない機会、最大限楽しんできたいと思います。とりあえず飛行機は手配できました。
