I finally bought it, the Mac DL version. The first spending of the bonus of this summer.
Finaleとは、譜作成ソフトウェアでして、僕が所属している団体でみんなが利用しているソフトウェアです。もとはMacのソフトとして開発されたようですね。
I was in a group that arranged various things by themselves for many years, and I’ve always wanted to try it myself, but I couldn’t quite get my arms around it. There didn’t seem to be enough time, and I didn’t have the confidence.

However, the opportunity to overcome such a « wall » came from a study session held the other day.
Last weekend, the leader (or more accurately, the soul leader) of that « small » group that I’ve been working with gave a lecture on arranging with Finale.
In addition, this year I quit the « big » place where I spent about 9 years and became mainly active in the « small » place for a while, so I had some time to spare and thought I’d try my best to arrange something.
This study session was very informative! The material was very well organized and the fast-paced lecture by Mr. Soul Chief was easy to understand.

But can you really do it? I’m certainly anxious about it. However, I was also in a group that arranged game music by themselves for about 10 years, and although I couldn’t do the work by myself, I kind of understand how to use the instruments that I can play (violin, horn) in a way that takes advantage of their characteristics and is conscious of their playability. He seems to have a good understanding of how to use them.
So, if I learn a few tricks and how to use the tools (Finale in this case), I think I can do it.
The operability on Mac is perfect.
I can’t work with this kind of software on Mac.
Scrolling is still very smooth, so I can work efficiently. This is the good point of Mac. In addition, I have installed it on my MacBook Pro and my iMac at home (up to two Macs are OK per one license) so that I can work anywhere, but especially my iMac at home is a 27-inch dual display, so it’s the best environment to have a bird’s eye view of the whole thing.
Those attributes are useful, but…
ちなみに、私、一応耳コピにとても役立つと言われているあの属性があるので、いろいろと助かってる部分もあります。単音やシンプルな和音なら即座にわかるので本当に便利な特性ですね。
Even so, when it is a fast phrase or there are three or more sounds, it is very severe to hear. But there is Mac as expected, and the application that can be used variously is complete.
A standard? It may be, but I decided to use the application that is in Mac OS called « GarageBand » by default to pick up the sound of basic mp3.
Originally it seems to be a simple composition tool, but it has enough functions to return to the part you want to hear and to repeat still and playback. mp3’s simple processing is also possible, so it is convenient to process the sound source.
You can also adjust the tempo without changing the pitch with a simple operation, so if you want to play a fast phrase, you can use this to slow down the tempo and play it by ear.

Also, I haven’t tried it yet, but I was told that for more complex sound sources, it’s useful to use some kind of voice analysis software. The other day, I learned about software for this purpose, but it was only for Windows.
It seems I’m the only Mac user in the group, so I guess I’ll have to find this on my own. Still, fortunately, there seems to be a lot of information about this kind of thing, so it seems to be no problem.
ざっと探した限りでは、例えばフリーのものであれば、AudacityとかSonic Visualiserとか。これらを使いこなすと、低音指定した周波数の音をフィルターできたりするから、特定のパートの音を分分けて聞き取るのに使えるのかな？
But I don’t need it because I don’t plan to listen to such a complicated song at the moment, but I may need it in the future, and it seems to be interesting to play with it regardless of whether I need it or not, so I’ll try it another time.

So, I have a perfect environment with all these tools, but it’s taking me more time than I thought to play by ear. When I was a kid, I was good at solfege, and I think I was able to take notes easily… I wonder if it’s a decline.
After that, it had to be arranged, so I was really impressed with how well everyone did.
I’ll try my best not to become a 3-day monk. I don’t know if I’ll be able to attend the next presentation in the first place…
