This Golden Week trip was only six days long. In previous years, I took about two weeks off by combining a week long vacation that I was able to get under the company’s system, but this is in contrast to that. It was because I had a concert just before the trip, or because I changed jobs last year, but even so, six days was enough to make the trip.
Beautiful villages in Northern France and their sources of information
This year’s GW, which is shorter than usual, saw me visit the newly added villages of Northern France.
We found this Facebook page.
It doesn’t seem to belong to the so-called World’s Most Beautiful Villages Association. The most beautiful villages in France were founded in the southern part of France, and the number of villages selected tends to be high in the south and low in the north, so I didn’t have many opportunities to visit this area. As for the trend of highs and lows in the south, historically speaking, the area was the site of two world wars in the 19th and 20th centuries, which may have had a large impact on the destruction of many historical buildings.
But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many charming villages and towns in this region. Now that I’ve finished visiting the most beautiful villages in France, I think I’m ready to take my time to explore the North of France (although it was actually quite hectic lol).
The location of the village we visited is shown in the following map.
The following is a brief introduction to the villages we visited.
Long (Long) ★★★★★
Location: Haute-de-France region, Somme department
The most beautiful village in the North of France that I visited first on this trip. It was the most beautiful of all the villages in Northern France that we visited.
It was a pleasant and beautiful village surrounded by greenery and streams.
Unfortunately, we could not enter the chateau and the church.
Saint-Valery-sur-Somme ★★★★☆
Location: Haute-de-France region, Somme department
Even though it was a Saturday, it was impressive that there were so many tourists.
Montreuil ★★☆☆☆☆
Location: Hauts-de-France region, Pas-de-Calais department
Bigger city than I expected. Full of shops and accommodations. There were also many people.
And in this town, too, there was one. A memorial to those who died in World War I and II (mainly children).
