最近「Read it Later」を使い始めましたが、正直どう使っていこうか悩んでいます。
Now that we have comfortable mobile WiFi, it doesn’t matter much offline?
One of the appeals of the so-called « read later » web services such as Instapaper is that you can download simple text data when you are online and read it offline.
However, these days you can have mobile WiFi or even WiFi in the station, so you can stay online much more comfortably than before.
Therefore, I feel that there is less need for these apps.
Articles from paid member sites can be imported by registering login information.
Even so, I think this kind of service has evolved a lot compared to the past.
For example, maybe it’s Instapaper now, but you can register your login information on the paid version of the site, so it takes all the text information that only paid members can see.
I immediately registered my login information for WSJ, which I recently started, and used it, and it picked up the paid version part properly without any problem.
WSJ is perfect because it has a lot of articles, a lot of topics, and breaking news, but the original site is too heavy.
So this app is very useful to keep you logged in and read all the text and diagrams in a light weight.
Multiple pages can be imported as one.
There are still good points.
If an article is composed of multiple pages, it will be saved as one.
What it means is that if an article consists of pages 1 to 5, as shown below, then
If you import this in Read it Later, it will look like this.
This is extremely useful! It saves so much reading time.
If you combine this with the fact that you can take in the paid membership sites mentioned above, you may find that these alone are certainly worth using.
But what is very disappointing is that there is a bug regarding the dictionary function of iOS.
When I start the app, it’s fine, but once I open another app and go back and open it again, for some reason the dictionary function is no longer available. It’s okay if I restart the app, but this is a bit of a pain.
Well, I’m hoping that this will be fixed in time.
So far the main use is just for Tweeting?
But even so, in this age of internet everywhere, I’m not sure how to use such an application to read later, and the significance of its existence.
But I noticed that it’s surprisingly easy to use when I tweet the site registered here with the title and URL from my iPhone.
I think I will use it for this purpose for the time being.
Is Read it Later a replacement for Reader2Twitter?
I’m getting close with this combination, but it’s still not as good as Reader2Twitter when it comes to usability.
ということで、しばらくこちらのサービスを粛々と使いつつ、あのReader2Twitterを実現するために引き続きこの手の話題には注目しておこうかと思います。
