foursquare I registered Venue for Tokyo Marathon.

runningtokyo marathon 2011

The Tokyo Marathon 2011 is now less than two weeks away. All I have to do now is to do some light training. I’m quite worried because I haven’t run much recently, but this is my second time, so I’ll trust my experience.

Now, at this time, I’m wondering what I should do about transmitting location information, but compared to two years ago, location information services have developed considerably and I’ve gained a lot of knowledge, so I have a wider range of choices than when I participated in the previous contest.

大会公式の位置情報発信サービスもあるのですが、それと合わせてせっかくなので「foursquare」で各ポイントをチェックインしていこうかと考えています。

Because I link it with twitter, I can tell you while recording location information, time, etc. by checking each point as I pass by doing this.

Register your Venue from your PC even if you are not there

But actually, there is almost no Venue related to the Tokyo Marathon! So do we make it on the spot while running? As expected, that’s going to be tough…

If so, let’s make it! That’s why I decided to make it. So how do you do it? Do we actually go to the place and make it? But wouldn’t that be a lot of work?

Don’t worry. You don’t actually have to be there to register a Venue.

まずホーム画面(http://foursquare.com/です)の右上のほうにあるこちら:

Enter the name of the Venue you wish to register. At this stage, it is still a search, so you can use part of the name.

This will bring you to the search results screen. Make sure the name of the Venue you want to register is not here, then scroll down to the bottom and click here

Now you will see a screen like this.

Enter the address you wish to register as follows. Especially in the case of the 23 wards of Tokyo, please pay attention to the position where you put the ward name. Otherwise, your address will not be recognized properly.

This will finish the registration. However, it is still not categorized or tagged, so now you need to edit it. Click « edit » at the bottom right of the map, and you will see this screen.

That’s it, you’re all registered!

So I made the main checkpoints by repeating this kind of work many times though it is tedious.

Obtaining detailed location information

ところで具体的なVenueの位置情報をどうやって取得したのか。それはこちらを利用しました。東京マラソン2011のサイトにあるコース案内です。

First, you can download the kmz file for Google Earth from here.

(Here)

Once I saved this kmz file locally, I uploaded it to my Google My Maps. Then you will get a map like this.

There is a proper address on each of these markers. I used this as the address when I registered the Venue. If you enter the address as it is, the location will be slightly off, so you can make final adjustments on foursquare while looking at this map. You can drag and drop the marker on the map.

The foursquare side is also a google map, so you can make pretty exact adjustments by comparing the two pages.

週末にでも車でコースを下見しながらひと通りチェックインしてみようと思います。
