2012 Greece

We left Meteora, the World Heritage Site of the cliffs, before 12:00 p.m. We headed for Olympia.

441km, 5 hours 38 minutes!

We already have to go back to Athens the next day and return the car, so it’s a forced trip as usual.

However, I aim at the Peloponnese Peninsula at a stretch without worrying because I’m used to it.

We thought we’d have to go back inland like we did when we came to Kalambaka from Delphi, but it turned out that the route along the sea on the west side was closer, so we got a little excited!

First, we left Kalambaka and headed northwest to the highway.

Continue west to around Ioannia, then south to Alta.

From Ioannia onward, the road was wide and easy to drive on, so it wasn’t hard to drive.

After about three hours of non-stop progress, we finally saw the ocean.

We could see a nice town ahead.

It was 15:00 at this point, and even though the journey was much easier than I expected, I hadn’t eaten anything since morning, so I decided to take a break here for lunch.

The weather had been cloudy on the way, but by this time it had cleared up at the right time.

I parked my car on the beach.

We chose a restaurant that looked like it had a good atmosphere right in front of us.

I ordered the Greek salad, which has become a staple on this trip.

« Deep-fried squid. »

And « assorted fish? »

This is the one that I just understood the word « fish » and ordered at random. It was a little bit like fried squid, but it was very tasty.

Yes, this restaurant’s menu was only in Greek, but since I’ve been here for about a week, I’ve gotten used to the Greek alphabet, so I managed to decipher it.

Now that our stomachs are full, we resume our drive.

夕暮れまでにオリンピアにたどり着けるかな。(続く)
