Date and Time: Morning of September 13, 2014

Finally, the start. As I wrote in the previous article, I would like to run through the 6km section from the start to the first chateau at a good pace and save some money.

6km Château MONTROSE (St-Estephe, class 2)

The road that turns left and west on the main road D2E4 is a very narrow single track road. As you can see, it is jammed with runners. It was impossible to run anymore.

This huge traffic jam was a bit unexpected. We were sure that it would be expected at the chateau in the future, so we had to revise the driving plan we had made in advance at this stage.

However, the weather you see, and my first wine. Tensions only increase.

This may be the first time I’ve seen grapes this close up. Very strong dark color.

Then we arrived inside the chateau. Finally, it’s the debut of the supply wine. And it is a second class chateau.

But the glass is plastic….

Actually, I was planning to prepare my own glass at the time of departure, but I thought it would be too bulky, so I stopped bringing it at the last minute. I regretted it a lot…

Now, there was a lot of excitement in the chateau. Runners in fancy dress were everywhere taking commemorative photos.

It’s lovely. There were so many of these runners around.

What do you do with the cup when you’ve finished it?

Well, this is quite uncomfortable for Japanese people, but there was nowhere else to throw them away, so I did as I was told, and threw them away in a conspicuous place in the chateau.

Water, aid?

One at the 3km mark before coming here to Montrose. Water and orange juice, I think there was also food available, but I missed that.

There was one more place in front of Montrose. We finally got some water here. There were very many.

The glass is very nice.

After this, the water supply and aid were very substantial. It was rather excessive. There was no sports drink-like thing.

Medoc Marathon’s famous « Vineyard Run ».

After Château Montrose, you will run through the vineyards to the next château, Château PHÉLAN-SÉGUR. It can be said that it is a special feature of the Medoc Marathon.

But this road was harder than I expected…. Just after this Montrose, it wasn’t so bad yet, but overall, the foothold was bad anyway.

Rather than a gravel road, it was more like a stone road with stones several centimeters in diameter lying around. There was a section where I couldn’t run properly because it hurt even with my cushioned running shoes. The vineyards of the chateau in the second half were particularly difficult. If you are a runner, you might want to take this into consideration.

I’m still okay with this level…

Thanks to this, we were way past the scheduled elapsed time at Montrose, and we couldn’t even run the next section to the chateau properly, so we just lost more and more time…. I wondered if I would be able to finish within the time limit…

8.0km Château PHÉLAN-SÉGUR (St-Estephe)

After a somewhat difficult vineyard course, we finally arrived at the second château, Château PHÉLAN-SÉGUR.

This chateau also has a course on the premises. Very nice chateau!

And the serving wine, oh my goodness, this one has a glass!

A toast to the chateau!

It’s more like pouring than I thought. By the way, it was like that after this.

The taste of Montrose was much better than Montrose, but the atmosphere of Montrose was much better than Montrose.

I feel good, I feel good, I feel good.
