European driving distance: Paris – Brussels is about the same as Tokyo – Fukushima

It’s true that I travel a lot by car when I go over there, but actually Europe is not as big as I thought.

Japan is much more spacious.

Let’s check that out for a moment.

まず「パリを中心とした半径300km」はこのような感じです。

続いて「東京を中心とした半径300km」を見てみましょう。

It is true that Japan will contain a lot of ocean while the other side is a continent all the way, but if you look at the pure distance, you will find that Japan is surprisingly larger.

例えばパリ-ブリュッセルって東京-福島くらいなんですよねー。

When I think about it, there was a case last year where I stayed in Luxembourg for the night and went back to Paris the next day, which is not so different from staying in Sendai for the night and going back to Tokyo the next day.

いやむしろ道路事情を考えますと、空いているし制限速度も高速では130kmだったりしますので、日本での同距離の移動よりも2割くらい楽に早くいける＝2割くらい遠くにいける、と思います。

いよいよ3月も終わり。毎年恒例のドライブ旅行まであと1ヶ月。
